If you are an early-stage founder with an idea but no team, Antler’s Nairobi residency is built for you. The investor offers up to $250,000 in pre-seed funding, a 10-week full-time programme, free office space and technology credits. The price is equity, and it is paid at the start. Before you plan around it, check the timing: Antler’s own Kenya page lists the current residency as starting on October 12, 2026, and does not state an application deadline. You can look at the page and apply at antler.co/nairobi or antler.co/apply.

Here are the terms, as Antler states them. The first cheque is $100,000 in cash for 10% equity, with no fees deducted. A further $150,000 is pre-committed to match your next VC-led round, on that round’s terms. That is where the “up to $250,000” comes from. Our own arithmetic shows what the first part implies: $100,000 for 10% values the company at about $1 million after the investment. The second cheque only arrives if you raise a priced round, so it is not guaranteed cash. An older listing from January 2026 described the follow-on as $100,000, so terms have moved. Read the current offer before you sign anything.

The residency has two phases of five weeks each. The first focuses on testing your business model, with one-to-one sessions, peer feedback and talks on topics such as fundraising. The second sharpens your pitch and plan, with weekly coaching, legal sessions and pitch training before you face Antler’s Investment Committee. Funding is decided at that point, not on admission. Antler says it backs fewer than 1% of applicants.

Who can apply? Antler is sector agnostic. You do not need a company, a co-founder or a finished product, and individuals and teams can apply. Antler says most founders have 5 to 15 years of work experience. Founders from across Africa and beyond are welcome if they move to Nairobi, since the programme is in person and full time. You do not have to launch in Kenya, but you must be able to relocate for 10 weeks. Applications involve a CV or LinkedIn profile for individuals, or a pitch deck for teams, followed by interviews that take about two to three weeks.

The extras are generous on paper. Antler lists more than $850,000 in technology credits for all joining founders, rising to over $2 million for funded companies. That package includes $350,000 from Google Cloud, $200,000 from AWS, $15,000 from Anthropic and $25,000 from GitHub. Credits are not cash, and their value depends on how much cloud and software you actually use.

Antler’s Kenya page lists four portfolio companies: HoneyCoin, UNCOVER, Hustle and Flowcart. The source article we worked from also named KaFresh, Beemi and Sukhiba, which we could not find on Antler’s page. Across Antler Africa, the firm reports 35 or more portfolio companies, more than $35 million in follow-on equity and over $20 million in follow-on debt. These are Antler’s own figures.

So is 10% fair? That depends on what you value. Giving up a tenth of a company before it has a product is a real cost, and it can affect how later investors see your ownership. In return you get cash, a co-founder search, a structured programme and a network. The source article also says the funding is designed to give 18 months of runway. We could not find that claim on Antler’s pages, so do not count on it. Ask about it in your interview. The article also quotes an old projection for Kenya’s internet economy, which we left out.

The residency runs every six months, according to Antler. If you miss this round, the next intake would fall around April 2027, though that is our estimate and Antler has not announced it. In the meantime, register on the apply page, prepare your CV, and decide whether you can move to Nairobi.
