Africa’s big talk on how the internet is run is heading to Accra. Lawmakers, regulators, tech experts, young people and judges will meet in one place. You can join them in person or online.
The 15th Africa Internet Governance Forum (Africa IGF) runs from 2 to 5 November 2026 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana. The theme is “Advancing Africa’s Digital Future Through Innovation, Inclusion, and Trust”. It is a hybrid event, so you can attend on site or follow online. Registration is free but required for both. Sessions run from 09:00 to 18:00 Accra time. The main sessions are on 3 to 5 November.
The Africa IGF is a yearly meeting on internet policy. Governments, civil society, firms, tech experts and young people all take part. The Africa IGF Secretariat organises it, and Ghana is the host country. Partners include Ghana’s Ministry of Communications, the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission. The event runs in English and French.
There is more than one stage. Besides the Main Forum, there is a Youth Track, a Children’s IGF Track and a Parliamentary Track. Judges meet in a Judicial Dialogue on Internet Governance. The African School on Internet Governance (AfriSIG) is part of the week too. Topics include AI, fair internet access, cybersecurity, online safety, human rights, public digital systems, climate and tech, and digital sovereignty. Session proposals closed on 31 July, so the programme is set. The full schedule is on the forum’s website.
To take part, register on the UN’s Indico system. You need an account. Your details must match your passport or ID. Upload a clear passport-style photo. Once you are approved, bring your digital confirmation and a valid photo ID to collect your badge at the venue. The registration page lists 15 September as its deadline. If you have not signed up, write to info@igf.africa to ask whether places remain. Register on the UN Indico page or see the programme at igf.africa.
Why it matters: Rules on data, AI, online safety and access shape daily life online. The Africa IGF is where those who write the rules meet those who live with them. If you build, fund or use digital products in Africa, the talks in Accra can touch your work.
Before you go: register early, keep your confirmation and photo ID handy, and pick the tracks you want to join. Online guests must register too.
