Bridging Africa’s Tech Talent Gap: Codar Tech Africa Secures $1.5M in Equity & Debt to Scale AI and Digital Skills
Lagos-based EdTech and tech talent accelerator Codar Tech Africa has closed a $1.5 million funding round structured as a hybrid mix of equity and debt financing. Backed by KWE4 Africa Venture Studio, the fresh capital will accelerate the expansion of Codar’s online learning platform, physical training hubs, and community scholarship initiatives across the continent.
Founded in Lagos in 2021, Codar has trained over 70,000 learners across high-demand technology disciplines—including full-stack software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Why a Hybrid Debt-Equity Structure Makes Sense
In African EdTech, pure equity financing can be overly dilutive for companies building hybrid (online + offline) education models. Debt financing provides non-dilutive leverage to fund capital-intensive physical infrastructure—such as physical learning hubs, power redundancy, and laptop loan programs—which generate predictable cash flow from tuition installment plans and corporate hiring contracts.

Strategic Growth Vectors
-
Focus on Advanced AI & Enterprise Engineering: Beyond foundational coding, Codar is integrating practical AI engineering, model development, and cloud devops to align with hiring demand from pan-African corporates and global tech employers.
-
Solving the Infrastructure Bottleneck: While online learning enables scale, power instability and high data costs remain barriers for many African students. Codar’s physical hubs in tech centers like Ikeja provide quiet, reliable workspaces equipped with high-speed internet and live mentorship.
-
Closing the Inclusion Gap: Codar’s flagship scholarship programs have awarded tens of millions of Naira in tuition support alongside data bundle stipends and laptop loans for underrepresented groups, women in tech, and low-income scholars.
Executive Perspective
“Our mission has always been bigger than teaching people how to code. We’re building a generation of African innovators who will solve local problems with global technology. This investment validates our vision and gives us the resources to reach thousands more learners.”
